Malware
Software and systemsComes in through: Downloads
Programs that install themselves without anyone noticing
An attachment, a pirated program, a browser extension or a fake update can install a program that steals passwords, spies or opens the door to bigger attacks.
Threat mapHow it happens
- 1
The download
Someone opens an attachment, installs a program from an untrustworthy site or accepts a fake update.
- 2
The install
The program installs in the background and can go unnoticed for a long time.
- 3
The theft
It collects passwords saved in the browser, documents or sessions, and sends them to the attacker.
How to spot it
- Programs or extensions nobody remembers installing
- The computer is slow or behaves strangely
- Antivirus warnings that get ignored
- Accounts used from outside without anyone giving out the password
How to protect yourself
- Active, up-to-date endpoint protection
- Install programs only from official sources
- Not everyone should be able to install anything
- Train the team to be wary of attachments and downloads
If it has already happened
Disconnect the computer from the network, change the passwords used on it from another device and have someone you trust check it before using it again.
