Tricking peopleComes in through: Audio and video
Fake voices and videos that look real
With AI it's now possible to imitate someone's voice from recordings or impersonate them on a video call. It's used to make scams that used to arrive only by email more convincing.
Threat mapHow it happens
- 1
The material
The attacker gathers audio or video of a director: social media, interviews or voice notes.
- 2
The imitation
AI tools generate audio or video with that voice or that face.
- 3
The scam
They send a voice note or make a video call asking for an urgent payment, data or access.
How to spot it
- An urgent, out-of-the-ordinary request by audio or video
- Odd quality, glitches or answers that don't fit the conversation
- Excuses for not using the usual channel
- Pressure to act before you can check
How to protect yourself
- Verify any request for payment or data through another channel
- Agree a code word or question for urgent situations
- Train the team with examples of fake audio and video
- Review how much of management's audio and video is public
If it has already happened
If a payment was made, call the bank right away and report it to the police. Keep the audio or video: it's evidence, and useful for warning the rest of the team.
